Week 4

Granny was in charge this week taking Finlay swimming whilst Lewis looked on and had a feed on the side. Lewis also had his first walk around Newmachar with Granny and Grandad, while Finlay was playing at toddlers. Lewis is doing great sleeping at night; most nights he will have a feed at around 10ish then through to 3am and then 6am sometimes even 7am -hurrah. He has also been getting much more head control this week and is loving getting all the cuddles from Granny and Granddad.

Finlay is still very much getting on with his Little Brother, and likes to stroke his head gently, and give him things - which aren't always newborn suitable. Finlay also helped Daddy build Lewis a cot with the Mega Bloks, however their measurements were a little out and it wasn't long enough or wide enough to lay poor Lewis in, although he could sit up in it quite comfortably.

It seems like Finlay was trying to scare Lewis with a week of face painting. Finlay came home from nursery with his face painted one day, and duly proclaimed he was a Gruffalo, but to us he just looked like he had a muddy face. Then at the Lemon Tree he got his face painted as Dogtanian (a grey dog from the 80s cartoon Dogtanian and the three Muske-hounds). Luckily Lewis took it all in his stride and wasn't phased by the many faces of Finlay.

On Saturday Annie had a work conference at the University she wanted to show her face at (and get a free lunch). So we dropped Annie at the University after ensuring Lewis had a good feed, and then Granny and Grandad and the boys headed into town. First we went to Jumping Beans where Lewis slept, while Finlay pretended to be a seed that grew into a flower, and then the parents were bumble bees chasing their flowers around the hall. Then we went over to the Lemon Tree where Lewis was happy snoozing and listening to the celtic folk music. We all survived without Mummy for a few hours, and Annie got a few hours of peace at her meeting. After which Lewis was just about ready for a feed again.

Sunday saw a trip to the leisure pool, which was jam packed because of the bad weather, Finlay enjoyed himself and can't wait until wee Lewis can join him in the pool.

Week 3

Nik and Finlay started the week swimming while Lewis slept even though he got splashed when Finlay leapt off the side. Lewis was then wide awake at a free photo shoot we had for him - although the photographer had wanted him asleep. After a big feed, he finally dozed off allowing the photographer to experiment and we got some lovely photos of Lewis in a sling and curled up on a sheep skin blanket in a basket. See Evy's Photography page here: http://byevy-photography.blogspot.com/ and some of her pictures of Lewis on the right.

Nik then started back at work properly and was glad to sit down for a rest! Finlay dressed up as a Gruffalo at nursery for World Book Day while Lewis and Annie contented themselves with little pottering walks along the railway line. The end of the week saw Granny and Grandad come up to visit. Lewis also had a visit from the health visitor and is jaundice free and gaining weight which Annie was pleased to hear after feeding him every 2-3 hours during the day and every 4 hours or so at night. In the afternoon Granny, Grandad and Finlay went to Haddo house to feed the ducks and go to the play park.

The weekend had us heading to the library, a 1st birthday party, to the beach and to Finlay's Fairy Godmother Ruth's place for pancakes. Finlay had a lovely time eating pancakes and playing with Lizzie and Billy in the garden. .

Week 2

This week started with us registering Lewis's birth. The registrar looked a little perplexed when Finlay said his baby brother was called Tarzan - that would be a first she said! Luckily we were awake enough to correctly register him as Lewis James Robinson.

Nik has made the most of being off on paternity leave taking Finlay for his swimming lesson and to toddlers. Finlay got to take his baby brother to nursery to show him off and Lewis loved getting cuddles from all the girls. We also visited Nik's current work and old work-place for even more cuddles of Lewis.

Between finishing the DIY projects in the nursery and the spare room (Lewis came early, which was not accounted for in the project plan) we headed to a café at the beach for lunch. Nik had one day back at work this week and then starts back as normal from Tuesday next week. So Annie was left in charge, with strict instructions to take it easy. At least she only had Lewis to look after, with Finlay happily in nursery - giving her lots of emailing time.

Lewis had lots more visitors this week, firstly Lorna and Christina, then Ruth and Steve, and then Lyndsey and Glenda and their families. Lewis joined Finlay at Jumping Beans (an exercise class for toddlers), Lewis was very impressed when the toddlers pretended to be lions but otherwise slept most of the time. We then went over to the Lemon Tree and Lewis got his first experience of Scottish folk music, while Finlay got his face painted as Dogtanian a favourite cartoon character at the moment.

Finally, Sunday saw Lewis's first trip to the beach. Finlay chased waves and Lewis filled his lungs with the fresh sea air.

Week 1

It seems that even when parents go to all the effort of discussing a birth plan, that the baby doesn't get the memo!

And so it was with Lewis; a week before his due date, with preperations for his arrival still underway, and Dad off to work on a Monday morning as usual, when before finishing the first coffee to start the day I got an urgent call from Annie.

Dropping everything where it was and rushing home, we dropped Finlay with our neighbours and rushed off to the maternity hospital.

They quickly hooked Annie up to a monitor and we could hear that all was well with baby's heartbeat - very welcomed news indeed. But there were still some concerns, so they sent Annie off for a scan and the result was that baby was breach (feet down) and that a low-lying part to the placenta would mean that a natural birth was unlikely to be possible. Annie was booked in for a Cesarean Section in the afternoon.

Lewis James Robinson was born at 3pm on St. Valentine's day, weighing 7lb 13.5oz.

Meanwhile, Finlay had a great time being looked after, and having a sleep-over with Ellen, Joseph, Michelle and Steve. Annie and Lewis came home on the Wednesday evening, and have been settling in back at home, whilst Finlay is very pleased with his little brother, although still believes he should be called Tarzan.
