Month 29

We were hardly around in June, with a long weekend to Denmark and a week and a half jaunt to the New Forest. Nik snuck in a long weekend training for his quadrathlon. So Annie took the boys to the Newmachar school fair where we met with Holly and Freya and Innes. Bouncy castle, playing on the wooden climbing areas and a trip to the play park and everyone was ready for bed. Finlay was also starting the transition to P1 with a visit to the P1 classroom areas. The joy of having been at school nursery he knows where everything is already.

After months of practising Denmark was finally upon us and we were off to FestiRibe. A Danish family was very kindly putting us up. Having had five kids of their own they were unphased and had a big box of lego at the ready. Annie was straight out for the first session. The Friday saw us heading to an island and visiting a beach where everyone drove their vehicles straight onto the beach. We then played at a couple of locations nearby. The Saturday saw our more formal concert where a mass of Scottish and Danish players played tunes together in front of a large audience. Street busking followed and the boys donned in their kilts got way more claps doing their ceilidh dancing than the performers. They even got a shop owner coming out and giving them torches for their performance. Sunday saw us heading to Legoland where Nik and Annie had as much fun as the kids. It was so well set up, short queues and at every queue there was a lego table for the kids to play on so they didn’t get bored. Lewis was rather taken by the aquarium there and liked pressing buttons to make the underwater lego models do stuff. The fish seemed rather unphased by the models and the bubbles. The Lego StarWars display was definitely Finlay’s favourite and we all enjoyed the rides.

We were back for a week before we went south as Nik was working near the New Forest and we had booked a holiday cottage in Lyndhurst and Granny and Grandad came to stay with us too. We broke our car journey down in Glasgow and then visiting Louise, James and Thomas in Doncaster. The boys had a fab time playing with each other and Lewis was stuck in playing with the sand and water tray. In the New Forest we had trips to an estate garden where the highlight was a ride on a little train, a trip to an animal farm where the boys got to feed calves, pigs, goats, ducks and horses. They got to hold guinea pigs and rabbits, go on a tractor ride and climb on lots of hay bales. We went to the National Motor Museum and had lots of trips on the Skyrail for Lewis and a birthday lunch for Mums 70th birthday. The Millers joined up with us at the weekend and after a walk we headed to a country pub for a proper birthday celebration. From the New Forest we headed to East Dean to visit Kerry, Cheryl, Daisy and Isobel in their new house. We had a lovely walk in the local woods and went to see the White Horse on the hill a tick in Finlay's I Spy book. Our last couple of nights saw us staying with Duncan and Verena and their three girls in London and they very kindly looked after the boys one night so we could see Colm Wilkinson in concert which was amazing.

Back to routine after a long drive back and Finlay had his first school sports day and Annie and Nik just had to take part in the parents race too. Lewis got to go to the toddlers summer party and had a teddy bears picnic surrounded by his friends Rebecca, Leah and Sophie. We had the school summer fayre and Nik had a corporate Highland Games event and there was lots of stuff for the boys so we all headed along for the day. And finally Finlay and Lewis went to Emily and Sophie's birthday party. What an action packed month!
