Week 23 & 24

This week saw us getting ready for our first week long adventure in the campervan with both boys. But before that, Nik and Finlay headed off for the annual Dads & Toddlers' camping trip to the beach. Annie and Lewis went up on the train and met up with the smoky boys and we all headed to a campsite in Ullapool stopping enroute to explore for a few geocaches.

We met up with Imogen, Ken and Harvey in Ullapool who had hired a campervan too. Finlay and Harvey had a lovely time playing together and chasing each other around the campervans. We then caught the ferry to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. We camped by the beautiful Uig beach at Cnip, purportedly in the top ten campsites in Europe, and we certainly agreed. Finlay had a lovely time splashing in the waves and playing on the beach. We visited the standing stones of Callanish, the Lewis chessmen statue, and were treated to a brilliant close up view of a sea eagle. We then headed through Harris and camped beside another beach for the night before catching the ferry to Skye. On Skye we stopped off at a few places and walked up to the Old Man of Storr (a rock stack a few kilometres inland form the coast), before meeting up with Imogen, Ken and Harvey on the south of Skye where we wild camped for the night.

We took a glass-bottomed boat trip from the Kyle of Lochalsh where we were blessed with seeing lots of seals and an old underwater wreck. We then headed to Fort Augustus for a couple of days chilling by the canal. The midges finally caught up with us in the evenings in Fort Augustus but we were still blessed with absolutely glorious weather. Our final stop was the Speyfest survivors ceilidh on the way back East, the final stop on a brilliant holiday.

Similar to Finlay's Blog, from this point onwards we will be writing the blog by calendar month, so August will become Month 7.
