Month 28

This month started up with a trip to Glen Clova for a SCAT folk weekend. We were blessed with wonderful weather and even got to sit outside the hotel playing instruments while drinking white wine spritzers. Our family room was directly above the bar so once the boys were to bed Nik and I snuck downstairs monitor in hand and listened and played tunes into the wee small hours. So it felt like we had two proper nights out. We had a couple of walks one up the Glen to get a couple of geocaches one of which was a dressing up box so Lewis was in his element, the idea being you posted pictures with whatever funny mask you chose. Another geocache was a series of five caches where you had to collect wooden parts of a dog and connect them together. Each part was handmade and a lot of thought and effort had gone into it.

Annie was working at Aberdeen University’s May festival on the Sunday talking to families about bumblebees. So while she did that Nik and the boys had a day visiting the library bus…what else? Annie also did an interview for Beechgrove Gardens about bumblebees which created a huge amount of interest in the BeeWatch bumblebee project and hence a lot of work for Annie for the rest of the summer.

Niks folks came to visit and we had a visit to Pitscurry Gardens a facility for people with learning difficulties to create and sell objects and work in the gardens. Annie was playing tunes for people as they arrived with her group that is heading to Denmark. Unfortunately the weather was not kind and we were huddled into a garage to keep dry and by the end it was absolutely chucking it down. The next day was much brighter for Annie to do the 10k Baker Hughes run. Steve and Finlay ran in the 400m race as did Nik and Lewis. Finlay seems to really have a flair for running and managed it easily. Afterwards we went to a Peppa Pig Party at the Beach Ballroom. Lewis was not sure about seeing a big Peppa and George Pig but liked the dancing after a while.

The end of the month saw us heading off in the campervan to Montrose for a Camping and Caravanning Club meet which coincided with the Montrose Music Festival. Although we did not see much of the festival the weather was glorious and camping on the old airfield we were right over the dunes to the beach which we pretty much had to ourselves even in the glorious sunshine. We also had a great cycle ride around the airfield hunting for geocaches which took us to an old icehouse and an old fishing bothy with the nets hung out to dry.
